Pageant Prep: What to pack for competition weekend
With my national pageant fast approaching, I need to think about what things to pack in my suitcases. This is especially important since I will be traveling out of state for the pageant! If it is your first time competing, or you want ideas about what to pack, I am giving you a window into my strategies for packing!
Important: I suggest you bring your ballgown, other important clothing and at least one pair of competition shoes on the plane with you. This is to prepare for the chance that your luggage could get lost, and you don’t want to have a disaster on your hands. All non essentials or extras can be packed into the checked bags.
Here are a few things I will have in my bag:
Double-sided fashion tape
This tape can be a lifesaver. If you need to hold your clothing in place, or some of your outfits are unexpectedly moving and not staying in place, this tape can help with that.
After the competition is over, you will want to change into some comfy clothes. I usually pack a few pairs of plain leggings and a loose shirt. This way, if you want, you don’t have to travel home in your evening gown outfit.
These are essential for competition. There are many different options to choose from, my favorites are Chinese Laundry tippy tops or Jonathan Kayne Suntans. These are both good because they have a platform, so although the heel may be high, it doesn’t feel like that when walking in them.
Snacks/ Bottled Water
Usually during competition, there will be long days. It is important to keep snacks such as fruit or pretzels AND water so that you stay hydrated. In order to compete at your best, you need to have your energy up.
This is also important to pack because you don’t want any of your under clothes to show through on stage. To be on the safe side, you should wear neutral shades, and be sure to pack more than one option.
