Special Edition: Things to Occupy Yourself During COVID-19 Social Distancing


Well, here we are in the third month of 2020, and it is turning out to be an interesting year. With the global pandemic COVID-19 making its way to the United States, we will now be impacted like we never have before. Many states have asked that we all stay home and practice “social distancing”, only leaving the house for essential tasks, such as grocery shopping. While you are at home, it can be daunting for some of us to find ways to occupy ourselves, especially if we are not necessarily working from home. I have compiled a list of activities that you can do during this time, and remember to hold close to those who you love, and be responsible so that we can all return to our regular lives, because there are many people who are suffering tremendously from this virus. If you can, try to use this time to be productive and spread positivity!


Read a book. With the extra time you may have being at home, take this opportunity to crack open that book that has been collecting dust on your shelf. Now is the time!

Take a free course. Many online platforms are now offering free materials that you would otherwise have to pay for, so take advantage of the access to free knowledge. I am currently taking a free course on social media marketing from Shaw Academy. Let’s get this knowledge!

Contact a loved one. Many of us may not live in the same state or area as our loved ones, so this is a good time to check in with them and see how they are doing. You can also take the time to reconnect with someone who you may not have spoken to in awhile.

Do some financial planning. During times of uncertainty, it can be anxiety provoking if you are not sure about your financial security. This is a good time to think and plan your financial future. You can start saving money today, even $1 is something, so do not be ashamed of the amount, the idea is to plan for times like this.

Exercise. There will be a lot less moving around in the next few months, but you can do plenty of exercises from your home. You Tube has thousands of free workout videos for practically anything you want to do, so stay active and keep your body moving.

Get creative. Many of us have a lot of items lying around the house that can be repurposed for something else. Now is the time to get those creative juices flowing, and you can look up plenty of activities online to complete.

Organize your house/living space. If you have been putting off that cleaning or organization project, now is a great time to get into it. Whether you need to reorganize your space, or de-clutter a closet, you will definitely feel better after becoming more organized.

Support a small business. During this time, there are a lot of small businesses that will be struggling financially, and we can all do our part to help them out. You can purchase a  gift card to use for later if the business is temporarily closed, for example.
